The Early Days

In January of 1969, all three of SeaWorld San Diego's whales started acting sluggish and having a very poor appetite. Shamu and Kilroy seemed to act poorly, however Ramu's condition was getting worse by the day. It was thought they had a flu or even pneumonia, which is what they were treated for.[1] It was later discovered that they were suffering from the "Hong Kong flu". Because Ramu was the worst of all, he was fed many fish with around 375 pills every six hours.[2] Despite the worries and scares, all whales survived.

Personality

Ramu was a very careful and easy going whale. There are no recordings of him being aggressive against his trainers, and was known for being the kind whale of SeaWorld Orlando. He lived with several Bottlenose dolphins as well as other orcas, but was never seen as attacking them. Ramu was also very interactive, and would approach guests along the guest in his freetime.[3]
